Description

The history of coffee in Tanzania dates back to the 16th century. Thanks to a long history of coffee production, coffee is responsible for 5% of export revenue and creates jobs for approximately 6% of the population. Over 90% of the coffee in Tanzania is produced by small landowners, with a growing period between July and December.

For many years the coffee trade in Tanzania was handled internally, preventing foreign buyers from directly purchasing from local plantations and consequently limiting traceability. Today however, importers from all over the world have the opportunity to buy directly from producers and cooperatives, allowing not only an increase in quality but also better conditions for producers.
