Description
Despite its turbulent history, Rwanda is one of the first producers of specialty coffee in the world. Since 2003, the country has experienced periods of strong economic growth, and coffee production has played a key role.
Progress is due in part to strong government support for the coffee sector, as well as trade rules that promote international exports and investment. Government strategy encourages high quality production in the specialty market niche. The economic results for farmers are much more profitable today than in the past, placing small owners in the position to positively boost the national economy.
